Sergeant Sir Thomas D. Gimlette, a member of the Royal Navy from 1879 to 1913, had the idea of giving his sailors a mixture of sweetened lime juice (lime cordial) and gin to help fight scurvy. This is an updated, slightly sweeter interpretation with a milder, Old Tom-style gin.
4.5cl Old Tom gin
2.5cl 1883 Lime cordial
Pour the lime cordial and gin into an old-fashioned glass filled with ice.
Stir with a mixing spoon to obtain a uniform mixture.
Decorate with lime peel (optional).
